User talk:Jimmy the Tulip

  • Dude, no worries: I've seen you've made some good calls on corrs already. Do *whatever* you feel like doing. But definitely bring in some of your stories, too! --Revanche (admin) 23:18, 12 November 2006 (CST)
  • Thanks for the compliment. I have been workign on the designs for a while, 3025 was a real hard one. I had a big run on getting things done in the designs when I was out of work with a herniated disc for a couple of weeks, couldnt work at work so I had to do something. That and I have an interest in the technology of the game and its fiction as well. I havent had a chance to read your fiction yet but Im sure I will soon and Im glad to have you on the BatleMech project.--CJKeys 23:28, 13 November 2006 (CST)
  • Welcome! It's great to have the additional help! Nicjansma 01:39, 14 November 2006 (CST)

Fiction

  • Yeah, I've just made a couple of basic grammatical corrections at the moment.

As for my fiction most of it is kind of New Star-centric so doesn't completely fit within the CBT canon 'verse. I'm gonna write some new stuff to post here. Jimmy the Tulip

Great! Even your New Star fiction rings as being BT-related. Maybe its not the easiest stuff for non-New Stellarians (New Starites, New Starians...?) to grasp right away, but the intent of the stories are clear. Hint: on the edit field, when you're done writing something and want to 'sign' it, click on the 2nd button on the right, which looks like a Q and some script. Doing that actomatically inserts the wiki code necessary to sign and date-stamp your post. --Revanche (admin) 17:30, 13 November 2006 (CST)
Ok, well I'm more than happy for it to go up here. I don't have the original Word Docs (on a CD at home somewhere) so it's probably best to copy and paste it over from New Star. I'm in the process of writing a CBT fan fic set during the Reunification War so will have some "legit" stuff to post soon. ;)
  • I've made my first fairly substantial change to an entry, BTW. the Planet Cerberus now has historical Information added. Let me know if the format or the positioning is wrong so I know for next time. :)Jimmy the Tulip
I saw, and when it comes to the planetary files, almost nothing has been done by anyone. That means...you're setting the style. I looked over it and added a few links (years, names, planets & events (like treaties) are always good to link to, even if no articles yet exist for those items). I'd recommend taking out the preceeding years (like 2583) that you have in front of the paragraphs. They exist within the text, so don't really need to stand out. If you want to add links just add [[ ]] around the item you want linked. That automatically sets the code for the linked article. --Revanche (admin) 18:36, 13 November 2006 (CST)

Project BattleMechs

Hi, I have been given a userbar for everyone who is working on BattleTechWiki:Project BattleMechs and I wanted to give you your userbar so that you could be recognized for one of the ways you help the community here at Battletech Wiki. I know that with time, and alot of spell checking and paitence, the BattleMech project will get done and it will help to make Bettletechwiki the premier source for information from 'Mechs to personalities. I hope that you can continue to help wherever you can on the project to make it the best that it can be.

BTW PMBattleMechs.jpg Place this userbar on your userpage as a member and contributor to the BattleTechWiki:Project BattleMechs so that anyone who stops by your userpage will know that you are a member of the project.

I appreciate what you do for the project and I appreciate what you do for Battletechwiki overall with your fiction. --CJKeys 07:20, 20 November 2006 (CST)

Thanks, CJ. I appreciate being allowed to take part in such a great project as this wiki and am happy to offer as much help as is needed. Being able to write and share my fiction with the world at large is a fantastic bonus. :) --Jimmy the Tulip 14:11, 20 November 2006 (CST)

Drafting Your Kiwi Assets

  • Hey, JtT: I'd like to draft you as a lead on an on-going project. I've been working on the policies that wikipedia employs and adapting them for use here. As I anticipate the BTW community growing, we need a to have a framework established that allows for the resolutions of differences (which is a constant battle at wikipedia). We're not gonna be avoiding the problem, if we grow as big as I think we can. But, if we prepare a framework now, then it'll appear to be a lot smoother when they do poke up. So, even though I'm still working on the policies themselves, I'd like to share what I've got so-far. Can you please read through BattleTechWiki:Resolving disputes. I'd like you to play the part of first Advocate (there's a really cool userbar that comes with the position of Advocate!). I'm still working on the Advocacy article, but essentially you'd be brought in to help explain someone's position in a disagreement about an article. You wouldn't be necessarily taking sides, but helping someone who feels like he's not expressing himself well and could probably sway understanding if he had someone explain it for him. Its an important first step in preventing edit wars. Would you be interested in helping start up and form the Advocates Corps? --Revanche (admin) 12:17, 20 November 2006 (CST)
Wow. That sounds like fun. Kinda the UN of BTW, only more effective. Yeah, I'd consider it a priviledge to help out with this. --Jimmy the Tulip 14:13, 20 November 2006 (CST)
Great! I'll get back to you once I punch out a Advocates page, and then you can take over and shape its mission. Thanks! --Revanche (admin) 16:01, 20 November 2006 (CST)

Project: Planets

  • JtT, please go to Template:ProjectPlanets and scroll thru the 6 historys with the picture examples. Let me know which one you like best, or upload one of your own. --Revanche (admin) 01:35, 22 November 2006 (CST)
I've built the Project now, but I'm waiting on a userbar set from Skuggi (for your members) and your input as to the talk page template icon. Take a look at BattleTechWiki:Project Planets (not yet advertised). --Revanche (admin) 11:15, 22 November 2006 (CST)

Americanized

  • Thought this was a bit funny, but maybe its something we need to address. Aiden Pryde (no relation to our New Star brother) has been correcting mis-spellings he finds in various articles. In Clans, he did fix some actual mis-spellings, but he Americanized some of your British English spellings. Any thoughts on this? --Revanche (admin) 11:18, 22 November 2006 (CST)
This is a hard one to address. You may well find that someone else will come along and re-edit them to British spellings. I have MS Word set up to americanise the spelling but my typing generally lends itself to British standards. As BTW is an international community there's not much one can do about it. In fact, if people go Americanising some Britishisms, the poster may well become a little irked.
Maybe an American standard has to be imposed (where possible and remembered) on all "acnon information" pages, but with regards to fiction it should just be left alone.
What do you think? --Jimmy the Tulip 16:30, 22 November 2006 (CST)
