Description[edit]

The Umayyads developed the Auxiliary Defense Tank in order to comfort and placate local Castilian nobles after the Umayyad invasion in 2830. Due to the Castiles' poor industry, they repurposed the earthmover chassis and added armor and weapons. From 2833 to 2862, the tank would see front-line battle first between Castilian nobles, and later as the Umayyads fought internally. After than, the ADT-1 was relegated to garrison duty.[2]

Even at it's release, the ADT-1 was viewed as subpar. The tank was given the nick name 'Oruga Negra', after a poisonous caterpillar as they could be deadly in numbers but lacked individual strength. Ultimately, the vehicle couldn't handle the escalating arms race, and gave way to the Castile's first BattleMech, the Reconquista.[2]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

The Medium Rifle was underwhelming at the time, simply chosen for its availability. Two tons of rifle ammo meant that the ADT-1 could fire continuously throughout an engagement. Most of these tanks were given to Castilian nobles, where the machine gun saw more use than the rifle as the tanks were used to quell local uprisings.[2]

Variants[edit]

  • ADT-2
Introduced in 2900, the ADT-2 came with an updated drivetrain, which allowed for more advanced armor and the replacement of the rifle for an AC/5 on a redesigned turret. At first, the sudden arrival of the ADT-2 on both sides of the battlefield raised concerns of espionage or reverse-engineering; however, it would be discovered that the Hanseatic League was selling the tank to both sides. The ADT-2 would be phased out in 2973.[2]
