Katherine Anne Davion was a notable intellect, and member of House Davion, during the twenty-third century.[1]
History[edit]
Early Life[edit]
Born on Terra, in her early teenage years from 2226 to 2228 was confined to a mental institution, due to suspicions that she was emotionally unstable. These arose due to incidents during her childhood, such as when was was eight, and insisted on speaking to her dolls in what neighbors believed was a made up language. It however was later determined, that she had actually taught herself a number of languages including Portuguese, Pali, Polish and Platt-Deutsch, after a linguist who was a friend of her family had stored a library of books at their house and she had decided a read a number of those from a pile which were written in "P" languages.
These feats later contributed to Katherine being recognized as having one of the twentieth highest IQ scores ever recorded in history, a fact which became listed in the Guinness Book of Galactic Records, as late as 2871. The stigma of mental illness did however contribute to Katherine deciding to seek a new life, when she accompanied her brother Robert Davion, nephew and cousin to New Avalon in 2232, in order to settle there.[1] [2]
University[edit]
Once on New Avalon, Katherine used her vast intellect to enroll and complete a doctorate at Outworlds University, which later became New Avalon University. While there she meet her future husband Dr. Morton Conyers, who she quickly married, and with whom she later did important academic work on the social dynamics of mental illness.[1]
Political Career[edit]
Leaving Outworlds University in 2237, Katherine entered into local politics on New Avalon, becoming an Alderwoman in Avalon City's Council. In this role, she assisted in the drafting of the cities charter, which remained in effect until the Reunification War. Amongst other things, this city charter provided for a profit-sharing arrangement for citizens in the event the city had a surplus, on the basis Katherine considered they should share in both the up and downsides of the city's fortunes.
Her other contributions to the success of Avalon City, included negotiating contracts with the mining companies operating in nearby hills, to ensure the industrial workers who lived in Avalon City received the best possible deal. This however may have contributed to her untimely death in 2242 at the age of 34, when she was killed during an inspection tour of a mine as a result of a suspicious cave in.
Despite her short life, her achievements were enough, that some published works proclaimed that she had influenced the course of Davion history more than other leaders who had lived to be twice her age.[1]
