BRIEFING

Scourge: Our position topside is somewhat…tenuous. One of our DropShips is coming in to bring much needed reinforcements. Until we can dig in, it’s gonna be rough upstairs. FedSun and Rim Collective ‘Mechs are being spotted everywhere. We’ve been hard pressed to stop ‘em all. Intel is spotty and lay-lame’s been wrong more often than right. Which brings me to my current set of orders.

Scourge: We’re to secure the canyon and the DropShip landing site. Problem one – that’s a lot of real estate for one lance to cover. Problem two – Intel says the canyon’s clear. Sure, it’s clear. And I can take out a ‘Mech with a toothpick. To make matters worse, I’ve got to break in a new MechWarrior on this patrol. I’m beginning to think Mistress Ryan hates me. In any event, I’ve got a job to do. Might as well get to it.

DURING MISSION

Scourge: Scourge to all units. Listen up! Latest intel expects a FedSuns attack on the landing site. Two enemy lances have been spotted. We’ve got our work cut out for us.

Trey: What’s the plan, boss?

Scourge: We’ll try to disrupt them at the ruins. If that doesn’t happen, we fall back to the base and provide support for the tankers there. Got it?

Trey: Ten-four, boss.

Deuce: Understood, sir.

Blaze: Urgh. The plan sounds a little…um…simplistic…sir.

Scourge: Watch your mouth, new guy! Do as you’re told or I’ll shoot you myself.

Deuce: That’s as friendly as he gets, Blaze. I’d watch it if I were you.

Blaze: Uh, right. Got it.

Scourge: Attention all units, enemy presence sighted in ruins! You are cleared to engage.

Scourge: Scourge to all units. Rendezvous at the landing site and support defense units there.

Scourge: Scourge to all units. Enemy presence at ruins, eliminated. Proceed to landing site to reinforce defense units there.

Trey: Great... Babysitting. I hate base defense.

Blaze: I've always found it to be an honorable duty.

Trey: *scoffs* You don't get out much, do ya, Blaze.

[If enemy units attack the base when no defenders are present]

Base: Base to Scourge, are you out there old buddy?

Scourge: What’s on your mind?

Base: We’re under heavy fire here.

Scourge: Relax, we’re on it.

Scourge: Okay, people. Looks like the last of them for now. Stand back and wait for new orders.

Blaze: That was intense. I don’t think I’ll ever look at base defense the same way again.

Scourge: Good! At least you learned something. Now stop yappin’ and get that ‘Mech cleaned up!
