Richard Balkema was the commanding officer of the Stewart Dragoons as of 3059.[1]
History[edit]
Colonel Balkema, serving under General Inga Bjornnson, was executive officer of the Stewart Dragoons in 3050.[2] While command of the Stewart Dragoons normally fell to the ruler of the Stewart Commonality, the aging Earl of Stewart eventually asked for the Free Worlds League Military to appoint an officer in his stead. General Balkema was the second officer to take the post and his prior experience with the brigade allowed him to anticipate its quirks. Balkema's predecessor, a retired fifty-year veteran of the FWLM, helped him with his initial ownership of the brigade but by 3059 Bjornnson's constant interactions with the Dragoons began to interfere with Balkema's authority, much to his chagrin.[1]
