William "Deputy Dawg" Carson was a MechWarrior who served in the Seventeenth Recon Regiment, also known as Camacho's Caballeros.

William Carson was one of those serving in the Caballeros in 3056 when they were employed by Chandrasekhar Kurita to provide security for one of his companies, Hachiman Taro Enterprises. William, then a lieutenant junior grade, piloted an RFL-3N Rifleman BattleMech in Infante Company within the Caballeros' Third Battalion,[1] under the command of the engimatic Captain Santo.[2]
On the morning of 1 November 3056, Carson was one of the members of the Third Battalion on patrol within the HTE complex in Masamori, the capital city of Hachiman, when the Citadel picked up a circling helicopter and transmitted an advisory warning to the Caballeros. As the advisory was issued, the helicopter began a full-power dive towards the Citadel. Carson, then standing a hundred meters north of Tai-sho Dalton Way, was the closest to the helicopter, and as the helicopter was acting in a fashion that automatically made it a target, he was the first to fire on the diving VTOL... and the first to hit it. Other 'Mechs from Infante Company and other companies were also firing on the VTOL within seconds, and it quickly took enough damage to cause it to plummet to the ground, where it exploded. The VTOL had been packed with explosives, and gouged a thirty-meter-diameter crater in the ground, killing four HTE Plant Maintenance techs who had been unfortunate enough to be traveling in a golf cart the helicopter crashed into.[1]
