As of 2001, BattleTech fan Warner Doles maintained classicbattletech.com as a private website that was well known and much used by the fan base. In 2001 WizKids and FanPro adopted classicbattletech.com as the official Classic BattleTech website. Doles remained a web moderator for the site, which also included a previous incarnation of the official BattleTech Forums.
He also coordinated the "Historical Archive Team" of voluteers who created digital copies of the original five House books — House Davion (The Federated Suns), House Kurita (The Draconis Combine), House Steiner (The Lyran Commonwealth), House Marik (The Free Worlds League), and House Liao (The Capellan Confederation)) — which were made freely available to BattleTech fans with the license holder's blessings. Later, he contributed to several BattleTech sourcebooks including Dawn of the Jihad and Jihad Hot Spots: 3070.
Canonization[edit]
The character Warner Doles was named after Doles as the result of a charity auction to have the winner's name canonized in BattleTech fiction:
“ | Yes sir. That would be me. And to explain, I won a charity auction to have my name or any name I wanted to be used in the novel. Then it turned into the two novels and ended up in the source book. I had no idea what was going to happen until you all did. That's the truth.[1] | ” |
