Barton Avellar was a late 26th century ruler of the Outworlds Alliance.
Following the premature death of his father Grigori Avellar, Barton proved to lack his father's shrewdness in playing House Kurita and House Davion off against each other. He even attempted to convince financial investors from both to enter a partnership.
In 2600 Kuritan financial interests engineered a coup that ousted Barton in favour of his cousin Rodrigo Avellar.
According to the (apocryphal) German novel Über dem Gesetz, Barton Avellar unsuccessfully tried to form a military alliance with House Kurita's Draconis Combine and was publicly humiliated and mocked by Coordinator Leonard Kurita for the attempt; in turn, Avellar then nullified the Combine's benefits from a previous trade agreement by including Federated Suns firms in the deal.
