Franklin spent twenty years serving in the LCAF and saw extensive combat. After that, he retired to Gibbs and founded his own party, the Alliance Party, which entered at the last minute the competition for the election.
He avoided the slugging match between the two leading parties, Gordon Hale's Freedom Party and Janet Kampt's Center Loyalists and was clearly the third party and most probable candidate for any coalition government.[1]
