The Mirach Home Guard was a Mirach militia unit active under both Republic of the Sphere and Federated Suns rule.

History[edit]

Under Republic rule, Mirach was guarded by two separate militias: the First Cossack Lancers under the command of the planetary governor, and the Mirach Home Guard under the planetary legate.[1] For two months in 3133, this arrangement was temporarily disrupted. On 16 April, as Minister of Information Elora Rimonova agitated against the government in close association with Legate Calvilena Tortorelli, Governor Sergio Ortega placed the First Cossack Lancers under the legate's command.[2] After one final training exercise, in which planetary heir Dale Ortega was assassinated on Elora's command,[3] the Lancers were scattered throughout the Home Guard. In secret, they served as agents of the governor, spying on the Home Guard and undermining their allegiance to the legate.[4]

Under Elora's influence, Legate Tortorelli launched a military coup on 3 May.[5] For a short few days, Tortorelli's Home Guard fought loyal remnants of the scattered Lancers, the Mirach Business Association's militarized IndustrialMechs, and its own defectors. Loyalty to the Governor won out. The coup collapsed by 12 May, the Home Guard's weak loyalty to Tortorelli undermined by Ortega-loyal Lancers scattered throughout and their force met with a strong defense.[6]

In the aftermath of the coup attempt, Tortorelli was allowed to remain as Legate on paper, but was effectively stripped of his duties. Management of Mirach's armed forces, including the Home Guard, was placed under Ortega loyalist Manfred Leclerc's purview.[7]

By 3151, years into Federated Suns rule, the Mirach Home Guard remained Mirach's primary militia unit. In early 3150, raiders devastated the militia, which then spent just over a year being rebuilt while the Eridani Light Horse garrisoned the planet.[8]
