Description

The Orca is a super-heavy BattleMech allegedly built and deployed by Clan Wolverine, the not-named Clan.

Canonicity

The Project Omega document was an April Fools joke by Dave McCulloch and Warner Doles uploaded to the official classicbattletech.com site. Pertaining to be an official Technical Readout-style document within the BattleTech universe (a report within Word of Blake), it described the super-heavy Orca-class BattleMech, complete with combat history and variants.

Although clearly marked as non-canonical, the design gained notoriety among fans similar to the Gausszilla. Within the document it was classified as a "Dreadnought"; 'Mechs massing above 100 tons are otherwise known as Colossal or Superheavy 'Mechs.

The Orca name has been semi-canonized in Technical Readout: 3145 Republic of the Sphere, with the mention that prior to the development of the Poseidon tripod super heavy 'Mech, the Republic of the Sphere built a prototype super heavy 'Mech named the Orca that heavily inspired the Poseidon. Described as a lumbering biped derived from the Omega that was mothballed after shortly after its prototype models were produced, the appearance and unit specifications of this Republic Orca prototype design are currently unknown.[1]

Variants

The Orca as presented does not appear to be an Omni design.

  • One variant exchanges the artillery piece for a quartet of rotary gauss guns, "deadly against light vehicles".
  • The other variant exchanges the artillery piece for two more ER PPCs plus heat sinks.
