Description
The Pressurized Train is a locomotive type of Rail Support Vehicle which is used in conveying people and cargo on worlds/planetoids which have hazardous environments. There are variations of this style vehicle, which is commonly known as a train through out the Inner Sphere. Featured here in this article is tractor & trailer which were produced by Buda Imperial Vehicles in the Draconis Combine. Produced during the Thirtieth Century, the Buda's Pressurized Train would be recognized as being logical template in which other companies trying design similar locomotive for dangerous places would come to. Buda's trains were designed be economic and easy to maintain during the terrible years of the Succession Wars, which provided many a Combine world with a most needed mass-transit system to move cargo and people when other resources were scarce. Uniquely, Buda Imperial Vehicles designed their trains similarly to suspended monorails.[1][2]
Equipment and Capabilities
A Pressurized Train's tractors (the engine) and its trailers are both designed with Environmental Sealing, giving the vehicles their unique ability to continue operating in most environments. Each of the vehicle's tractor and trailer hulls were built with 1.5 tons of BAR-7 rated commercial armor. The Tractor is electrically powered through external rails, which effectively gives the train unlimited fuel range and allows it to move upwards to 180 kp/h.[1][2]
Tractor features a single Mounted Searchlight to allow the engineer to better pilot vehicle at night.[1][2]
Cargo
While the tractor is not designed carry cargo, it's can hold 4.5 tons of cargo while the trailer can hold nearly 30 tons. Trailers come in variety types, from typical cargo hauler, liquid tanker, and passenger car among other capacities.[1][2]
- Tractor - 4.5 Tons
- Trailer - 29 Tons
Design Notes
The Pressurized train's tractor has a External Power Pickup and Tractor Chassis Modifications, while trailer has Tractor and Trailer Chassis Modifications.[1][2]
Notes
The Pressurized Train featured in both Technical Readout: Vehicle Annex and the revised editions were not given a name. The original article from thee book mention that Buda Imperial Vehicle's version featured was essentially generic template for other renditions of the vehicle.
As of this writing, there is no listed Battle Value for either the Pressurized Train's tractor or trailer components.
