:::The OP raises a good point, but Cyc is right - being carried on a JumpShip Hardpoint (Docking Collar) is practically the definition of a DropShip in BT. Also, it-universe it is covered under "DropShips" in every TRO it appears in, and out-of-universe it's built under DropShip construction rules as a spheroid DropShip. Finally, see the fourth bullet point under "Notes" in the article - the ''Behemoth'' was canonically confirmed to have a landing gear (for low-g worlds without atmosphere, apparently, but still...). :) [[User:Frabby|Frabby]] ([[User talk:Frabby|talk]]) 13:37, 27 June 2022 (EDT)

::::Huh. Damn that was quick, thanks for the responses. I would still insert this as a line by a redshirt or something in a book. 'Ah yes, the behemoth, truly a pirate's golden prize. a glorious 100,000 tonnes of DropShip.' 'DropShip? it can't even get into an atmosphere!' 'Well no, but see, it docks at a docking collar, and does all the other things a Dropship can do, so it's a DropShip, see?' 'It's still a DropShip that can't drop! And if it does, it's a BrokeShip.' 'So then what is it mr. smarty pants?' 'It's a cargo hauler with an identity crisis!' -- betty pipes up: 'Targeting: DropShip, Behemoth Class.'

DropShip?

uhh... given it is incapable of atmospheric operations... isn't this technically not a dropship, rather just a cargo hauler with an identity crisis?— The preceding unsigned comment was posted by 66.183.39.160 (talkcontribs) .

As per the History section on the DropShip page, in BattleTech the term comes from that they "drop" off from the JumpShip carrying them upon arrival in their destination system not specifically that they perform a drop onto a planet from orbit like most other fiction/universes.Cyc (talk) 03:59, 27 June 2022 (EDT)
The OP raises a good point, but Cyc is right - being carried on a JumpShip Hardpoint (Docking Collar) is practically the definition of a DropShip in BT. Also, it-universe it is covered under "DropShips" in every TRO it appears in, and out-of-universe it's built under DropShip construction rules as a spheroid DropShip. Finally, see the fourth bullet point under "Notes" in the article - the Behemoth was canonically confirmed to have a landing gear (for low-g worlds without atmosphere, apparently, but still...). :) Frabby (talk) 13:37, 27 June 2022 (EDT)
