As you can see in the article image, HarJel is also known in MW:AoD as a gear card. It can equip a 'mech (like every gear cards). I can't tell you when it has been introduced (near 3138) for 'mechs, but what I know is that is a canon information, as it comes from AoD.

Naturally occurring vs. "developed"

Well it can be only one or the other: Either HarJel is said naturally occurring substance and was discovered by the Diamond Sharks, or HarJel was developed from a naturally occurring substance but said substance is not the same as HarJel - be that because HarJel is a refined product, or a totally synthetic product based on said substance. I don't have the source book so cannot look it up myself. Frabby 01:40, 28 April 2009 (PDT)

Afair, CDS discovered a natural petroleum-like substance and uses it as a chemical basis for the HarJel.
In the novel where Diana Pryde gets her bloodname (title forgotten) a similar substance on Ironhold is mentioned. Joanna thinks, it's useless: it can't be used as grease and it can't be turned into HarJel. --Detlef 03:16, 28 April 2009 (PDT)
