The Wylde Cards
Formed 2859
Affiliation Mercenary
Parent Command

The Wylde Cards was a mercenary unit of unspecified size and composition raised in 2859, during the Second Succession War. Context suggests[1] they were a 'Mech regiment.

The unit was in Draconis Combine employ, rated a medium-weight regular unit at full strength, and considered to be of questionable loyalty. By 2864 they had reportedly lost their ability to function as a combat unit, and weren't reconstituted afterwards.[2]

The Wylde Cards was a mercenary unit formed by former LCAF officers during the chaos of the 2nd Succession War.

History

The core members of The Wylde Cards are from the planet Skye, where rebellion and treachery are commonplace. If you ask any Lyran, that is. But, these individuals are a step above, and most were drummed out of the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces because they did not get along with their commanders.

The CO, Hunter Jameson Wylde made it to Hauptmann, in the 7th Donegal Guards, due in part to a diligent Kommandant named Oberon Blair, who saw his potential as a company commander. Sadly, his commission was cut short, by a ring-knocking socialite Colonel, named Johan Kant-Steiner; who didn’t like the fact that Wylde was far more competent and refused to be one of his boot-lickers; in which, after a mission failed, brought trumped-up charges against him, of cowardice and failure to follow orders. As a sign of solidarity, some of Wylde’s command resigned their commissions and traveled with him to Galatea, to find work as mercenaries. Once there, and with their 'Mechs, they soon gathered up recruits from other merc commands that were no longer in fighting shape. They named themselves the Wylde Cards, after a game of poker; where Hunter won, spectacularly, with a “Dead Man’s Hand” against the commander of Horsa’s Howlers, Hauptmann Benedict Horsa; who had despised Wylde since.
