Star League Era[edit]
The Free Worlds League Navy Fifth Fleet was one of five WarShip formations operated by the FWLN at the height of the Star League era, and as with the other four FWLN fleets, was the designated fleet for one of the five military districts within the Free Worlds League. The Fifth Fleet was responsible for patrolling the anti-spinward and rimward regions of the League. Like the First Fleet, the Fifth Fleet had seen relatively little combat in the decade leading up to 2765, and the Star League Defense Force believed that it was likely that some or all of the Fifth Fleet would be redeployed to support another Fleet if there was a major border disruption. The Fifth Fleet anchored in the Gibraltar system.[1]
As with the other FWLN fleets, the destruction of the League-class destroyer FWLS Albert Marik in a brief engagement with a flotilla from the SLDF Seventh Fleet in the Calloway system in 2763 had had a profound effect on the personnel of the Fifth Fleet, with operations being conducted with textbook precision and response times improving.[1]

The Free Worlds League Navy consisted of five fleet groups, with each fleet assigned to a League military district. Each fleet consisted of four Atreus-class battleships, one Aegis-class heavy cruiser, and two League-class destroyers. Other WarShips, JumpShips, and DropShips were assigned to each fleet as needed.[1]
In 2765 the flagship of the Fifth Fleet was the FWLS George Humphreys.[1]
