Danielle Winters was a Leftenant in Charlie Company, Second Battalion, First Robinson Rangers.[1]
History[edit]
Winters and seven other Rangers were issued prototype Battle Hawks that the AFFC wanted to test in the field. Selecting the Clan Jade Falcon world of Hot Springs for a the raid, Second Battalion encountered elements of Trinary Alpha, Fifth Battle Cluster which was mistakenly identified as a Binary by the AFFC forces. The battalion commander, Kommandant Strom, ordered a general charge against the Falcons. Though Winters and other Battle Hawks came out with relatively minor losses, the battalion suffered nearly eighty percent casualties and the retreat off-world turned into a rout. Winters wrote her after-action-report accurately, but was pressured to alter it and go along with a false narrative designed to shield the "very popular and up-and-coming" Kommandant Strom by placing the blame of the "flawed" Hawks. Shortly after that, Winters left the Rangers, though it is unknown if she resigned, transferred, or otherwise.([1][2][3][4][5]
BattleMech[edit]
Winters piloted a Commando initially, but was issued a Battle Hawk for field testing.[1]
Quotes[edit]
“ | The Battle Hawks are the only reason any of my lance survived Hot Springs. The insane order I was forced to follow would have lead straight to my grave if we'd been in lesser ’Mechs. Charging a Binary of Falcons? My old Commando would have been scrap, and me with it.[1] | ” |
