In July 3027, Dieter Hanson would serve in a Lance of BattleMechs under the command of Leftenant Theodore Barkley on a raid of the world of Rollis. The raid was expected to meet light resistance, but elements of the Rollis Home Guard under the command of Subcommander Rodney Piet put up a stubborn defense that took the Federated Suns troops by surprise and drove the raiders off world.[2]
