Frances Marrion was a student on Verthandi and later a rebel leader during the popular uprising there in 3025.[2]

History[edit]

Originary from an unknown planet, she moved to Verthandi to study art at its reputed University of Regis. She fell in love with a man named Jacim Feldhausen, history professor at the university, having a son with him. When a popular uprising began on Verthandi against the occupying Draconis Combine in 3025, Frances Marrion's husband, for making peaceful protests, was executed, amongst others, so she, thirsty for vengaence, send her son to a a vacation outside the planet, quit her art studies at the university and joined the rebels.

Soon, Frances get tired of the lack of aggresivity of the rebels, so she decided to act by her own initiative. In the first month of the rebellion, she led a group of rebels that captured the Monitor-class Vengeance at Port Gaspin. She renamed the vessel Swamp Fox, after a mythical monster her husband talked her, and for the next four months raided Combine installations through the Silvan Basin. Her and her crew's actions helped the rebels gain almost complete control of the area.[3]

However, her actions gained her a lot of attention. To put down the rebellion on Verthandi, the Combine sent in massive reinforcements, and their prime target was the destruction of the Swamp Fox and Frances Marrion. The Combine forces lured the rebels in with a fake supply depot stationed near the river. When the Swamp Fox moved in to attack, the 31 December 3016, their jump infantry found the place deserted. Then, four BattleMechs that had been underwater emerged to engage the ship. Despite a valiant resistance, that destroyed two Combine Marauders and crippled a Shadow Hawk, the Swamp Fox was destroyed. Frances lost consciousness, but later was found alive in the river by her ship's squad of jump infantry, which had attacked the depot, taking her to a rebel base. She was the only survivor of the ship's crew.[2]
