Greg Hossu was a Warship commander in the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery during the Second Succession War.[1]

History[edit]

He started his career as Lightning aerospace fighter pilot. His excellent scores got him a posting with the Sword of Light. It was during this assignment that he displayed an aptitude when fighting enemy WarShips (simulated and actual combat). These skills granted him a post in a Baron-class Destroyer's fighter squadron.

During an engagement with Federated Suns forces in 2818, he found himself in the command deck as his fighter was crippled. When the command staff was paralyzed, he took control of the situation and rallied those few that were still able to operate and conducted a fighting withdrawal. His actions got him a promotion and the command of that Baron WarShip.

He remained in command until it was crippled in 2840 over New Caledonia while repulsing a Lyran Commonwealth raid and transferred to the Galedon II as commander.[2] He got the post to the larger vessel left in DCMS hands thanks to his inherent ability to adapt to fluid situations and unquestioned loyalty to the Coordinator.[1]

He made it a point to bring those loyal to him along to his latest command, creating an automatic synergy between the various officers, from navigators plotting jump points to the deck officers in charge off fighter launching and recovery.[1]

As commander of the Galedon II he was involved in many fleet engagements that whittled down the Lyran black-ocean navy. It saw on average three engagements a year though some of them were no more than intercepting and boarding merchant vessels along the Combine border.[3]

In 2853, the Galedon II took part in an offensive against Hesperus II, later dubbed the sixth, seventh and eighth battles of Hesperus II where the Draconis Combine enacted a blockade of the Hesperus system.

The Lyran Commonwealth famously reactivated their ancient battlecruiser LCS Invincible to break through the Combine siege. It jumped to the Hesperus system's nadir jump point on 25 October 2853 with six military DropShips and smashed through the Combine blockade vessels, destroying most of them. Only the Galedon II escaped by means of a preplanned jump to an irregular jump point close to Hesperus II at the last minute, taking the DropShips Katana, Rapier, Broadsword, and Sabeeh plus a few squadrons of aerospace fighters with it.[4]

On 10 November 2853, the Invincible and the relief fleet accompanying it arrived at Hesperus II and engaged the Draconis Combine's planetary blockade fleet which had been reinforced by the Galedon II and its DropShips as well as a trio of corvettes that had been recalled from the zenith jump point blockade fleet. However, the Draconis Combine fleet was quickly routed (implicitly with heavy losses).[5] All Draconis Combine WarShips that had participated in the blockade were destroyed.[6]
