The Immigrant Citizenship Coalition (ICC) was an advocacy group focused on expanding access to Republic of the Sphere citizenship.[1]

History[edit]

The Immigrant Citizenship Coalition, active since at least 3127,[2] advocated in support of citizenship rights for immigrants to the Republic and for those displaced by the Resettlement Act of 3082. To the ICC, Republic citizenship had been given selectively to Devlin Stone's main supporters and the already wealthy, and the requirements were out of reach for many residents - especially those outside military families. The Military Materiel Redemption Program's offer of citizenship for BattleMechs was the subject of some criticism.[1]

On 11 July 3132, in front of the Senate Select Committee on Citizenship, the ICC proposed three reforms: decreasing the service requirement for citizenship to three years, granting probationary citizenship and voting rights halfway through the service period, and giving the Resettlement Act migrants and their descendants first choice of service assignments. Senators showed limited interest, and Lissa Ruchenko in particular declared the proposals too extreme.[3]

The ICC was not alone in calling for citizenship reform. Some Clan citizens viewed the citizenship regime as anti-Clan, favoring those who owned land and BattleMechs and were willing to disarm themselves. On 6 August 3132, the ICC proposed a formal alliance with Clan Wolf, whose Star Captain Katrina Ward had become a high-profile critic of Republic citizenship laws; Clan Wolf declined that day.[4]

Months later, the ICC's controversial proposals stood out as an issue in the post-Blackout January 3133 Republic elections.[5]

As of 3132, the ICC's spokesperson was Sebastian Myrna.[3]
