Major General Jock Sergeant was the commander of the Fifth Syrtis Fusiliers, with the Federated Suns, until his death in 3145.[1]

In response to the Capellan Confederation's invasion of the Federated Suns in 3144, Operation CELESTIAL REWARD, Sergeant and the Fifth Syrtis were rushed to Royalston to help defend the front. Shortly after they had deployed however, the Fifth Syrtis were crushed by House Hiritsu and the Fourth Confederation Reserve Cavalry, and Sergeant had been killed.
While Sergeant's force was weighted towards armor and infantry, he tried to use his BattleMechs to decide the battle, despite being outnumbered by the Capellans in that regard. Fooled by a false retreat by the veteran Fourth CRC, Sergeant overextended with his 'Mechs, and died at the hands of House Hiritsu.[1]

Sergeant was known to have piloted a Templar III BattleMech.[1]
