Luciana Araya Morales was a mercenary officer and leader of the Illician Lancers.

Luciana Araya Morales joined the Illician Lancers on an unknown date, rising to the rank of major. During Operation CERBERUS, she was already second-in-command of the Fifty-ninth Strike Regiment of the Lancers. When her commanding officer, Colonel Ryan Bradley, died, she replaced him as the regiment's leader.[1]
On 19 December 3150, she was with her unit on Kafr Silim, where she participated in an exercise with her 'Mech. After leaving it, she was approached by her XO, Major Xavier Jacoby, who attempted to convince her to stand for General of the Lancers, but she didn't want to talk about it, sure that the other Illician officers wouldn't listen her.[1]
On 3 February 3151, Luciana led the Fifty-ninth in a combat exercise against the Twenty-first Rangers, crushing them in an ambush. After the victory, she was congratulated by Xavier, who insisted that she was the best officer to lead the Lancers, demanding that she declare her candidacy at the next conclave of the Lancers, in a week. She was frustrated by his insistence, but admitted to herself that he was right.[1]
During the conclave on 25 March, the Illician officers debated the unit's situation. Their position on the Capellan Confederation border was de facto exile, and the Lancers were divided into three camps; one wanted to follow Capellan March Duke Alexander Hasek into a war against the Taurian Concordat, which later became the Pleiades War, another was happy to stay where they were, but Luciana's camp wanted to contact Julian Davion and ask him for a place on the front lines. The conclave became a heated debate, with no side winning the discussion.[1]
On 17 June, after reaching Kafr Silim, Fox Khanate saKhan Ya'el Labov invited Luciana to his DropShip to talk. He explained her why he was there. He had chosen the Lancers to open up the mercenary market for the Foxes. He knew they weren't happy with their assignment, forgotten by the Suns, and offered her the use of the Fox Khanate as the Lancers' broker for their future contracts, replacing the MRBC. She was surprised but interested. She became enraged when he stated that her being chosen the Lancers' new general was a prerequisite for the deal. She accused him of manipulating her, but Labov said that she was simply the most persuadable. Then he gave her a gift, the object his agent had recovered from Terra: a keystone of the Illician Order's abbey.
On 25 June, in a newly convened conclave, Luciana shared Labov's offer with the other Lancers officers. Most were furious at the Foxes' conditions, but she pointed out that it was only an offer, and insisted on three options for the future of the Lancers, before finally revealing the Fox's present. She was chosen general, and on 1 July, she sent Labov a message, accepting his offer.[1]
