History[edit]
Captain Morton Hopeless was a well known Solaris gladiator more known for his loud mouth than his rankings. He was particularly outspoken about the conventional wisdom that an Atlas could defeat a battalion of Stingers. When Atlas pilot Killian "Mangler" Pomeroy heard of this he demanded Hopeless "put up or shut up." Accepting the challenge, Hopeless fought a match in the Jungle for verigraphs. Taking advantage of the close quarters and high temperatures Hopeless outmaneuvered the Atlas, finishing the match with a humiliating kick that snapped off the larger ’Mech's leg. At the conclusion of the fight Hopeless refused to take possession of the Atlas, claiming it to be an "inferior ’Mech."[1]
