Protector of the Blood is a short story which represents part of the Battle of Arc-Royal (3146).

Plot summary

Dara, a Elemental trainer, was on a storage with Lowella, a young female trueborn girl, to make her repair the damage she had caused in a joke, when they saw the nearby training facility under attack by Clan Jade Falcon elementals. He orders Lowella to escape through a vent shaft. Detected by a Falcon Elemental, he engaged it armed only with a hammer, expecting to disable his main weapon, with limited success, and put on fire the Falcon, without slowing him. He was forced to escape through the building, with his pursuer behind. The Elemental toyed with Dara, and when on the street, he decided to kill him... but then it was crushed by a Kell Hounds vehicle. The wounded Dara gets over it, seeing than Lowella was the driver, before losing consciousness. Sometime later, Dara awakens in a Hounds' DropShip. Lowella had get him onboard, and was still at his side. She informed him about the total victory of the Falcons on planet, and the Wolves-in-Exile and Hounds departure. But despite being separated from their Clan, Dara knew than everything will be fine if Lowella was with him.
