History[edit]
Smithers was initially a member of the Draconis Combine's elite Seventh Sword of Light regiment until 3015, when he was wrongly reported killed during a raid on the Federated Suns world of Cassias. Having only had his 'Mech disabled, Smithers hid in the hills and lived off the land for two years until Kurita forces returned to the planet and he was rescued.
Shortly after Smithers left Combine service, he joined the Waco Rangers, carrying many scars and much bitterness from his experience. As of 3025, Smithers was considered the oldest lance commander—and luckiest MechWarrior—in the Rangers.[2]
BattleMech[edit]
Rich Smithers was known to pilot an Atlas BattleMech, nicknamed Back from Hell.[1]
