Susumu Fujiwara was the commanding officer of the Draconis Combine's invasion of Hesperus II in 2853.[1]

History[edit]

Tai-sho Fujiwara, leading the Draconis Combine's effort to conquer Hesperus II during the late Second Succession War, arrived in the Hesperus System on 9 April 2853 and quickly achieved orbital superiority. After numerous months of besieging Hesperus II and hammering the defenders with aerial assaults and lightning raids, Fujiwara made the decision to land eight regiments of Combine troops on the planet itself in August 2853. By September, the Combine had firmly established their positions on-world and by October the defending Tenth Skye Rangers and Ninth Arcturan Guards had been crushed by the grinding force of Fujiwara's troops. However, the Lyran Commonwealth had a few a surprises left up their sleeves, preventing Fujiwara from achieving victory.[1]

First, the sudden appearance of a scratch battalion of BattleMechs lead by Baron Ivor Brewer took the advancing Combine forces by surprise and dealt startlingly-high losses before being forced into retreat. Then, after months of having a crew trained from scratch and slowly sneaking its way into Hesperus' space, the LCS Invincible finally arrived to the fight on 25 October. Crushing two of Fujiwara's own supporting WarShips before scattering his naval blockade, the Invincible bought more than enough time for a Lyran relief fleet to begin landing troops on Hesperus just as Baron Brewer's men were being finished off. As the Fujiwara prepared to claim the Defiance Industries factory for the Combine, Invincible hit his troops with a direct orbital strike, killing hundreds and forcing the survivors to contend with both Baron Brewer's reinvigorated soldiers and their newly-arrived reinforcements.[1]

Those Combine troops involved in the fighting around the primary factory managed to badly damage a Defiance Industries production line before perishing and the rest of Fujiwara's troops fought until mid-November, when the Coordinator of the Draconis Combine declared the battle lost and ordered the surviving Combine forces to retreat. Casualties for both sides of the fighting were extremely high, with Fujiwara's force losing more than half of its 'Mech, aerospace, and transport vehicles and all six of its WarShips, although the Lyrans also suffered horrendous losse - including the Invincible, which suffered from a misjump and would not be seen again until 3067.[1]
