History[edit]
In 3027 prior to the Dragoons' campaign on Udibi to capture supplies from the Federated Suns, Van Zyl was considered to be a huge man, taller than 6 foot 7 inches, who won every arm wrestling match in every barracks he has ever inhabited. He was also known to do delicate scrimshaw carving as a hobby.[2]
He participated in the fighting on Udibi against McKinnon's Company as part of McLean's Medium Lance, and after the Battle of Misery when his lance became the Heavy Lance of Gamma Regiment's Third Provisional Company, he went on to fight in the Fifth Battle of Harrow's Sun where he was killed.[1]
BattleMech[edit]
Thomas Van Zyl was known to initially pilot a CRD-3R Crusader BattleMech, including during the 3027 raid on Udibi. He later piloted a Quickdraw until his death on Harrow's Sun.[1][2]
