History
The first air unit created in the Outworlds Alliance, it has become the most respected unit in the Alliance. Its pilots are some of the best pilots in or out of the Inner Sphere. No one joins the First Air Wing straight out of training. Pilots are selected from the other four air wings based on skill and merit. While this has caused some friction with the other units, it isn't enough to effect joint operations.
Officers
The commanding officer of the Alliance Air Wing between 3064 and 3067 is Chairman Stephen Wood, a veteran of the 1st.[1][2]
The commanding officer of the Avellar Guards between 3064 and 3067 is Chairman Douglas Carmichael.[1][2]
Tactics
Adept at space assaults the 1st has made it their personal mission to prevent opposing DropShips from making planetfall. The Avellar Guards are best digging in and holding static positions, but they do field enough equipment to allow for flanking and counterattacks should the situation present itself.

- The 1st Wing is entirely upgraded with Star League technology. They use maily Seydlitz, Shilone and Slayer aerospace fighters.
1st Wing Second Regiment (Elephant Ballet) (3 Squadrons/Elite/Fanatical)[1][2]

- The second regiment used mostly heavy fighters.
1st Wing Third Regiment (Ghostriders) (3 Squadrons/Elite/Fanatical)[1][2]

Avellar Guards Command Battalion (Gunfighters) (1 Battalion/Veteran/Fanatical)[1][2]
- CO: Chairman Douglas Carmichael
- The Guards fielded the best 'Mech pilots in the AMC, and used mainly heavy and assault 'mechs.
