History

Star League Era

Following the repeal of the Council Edict of 2650 by the Star League Council in 2752[1] the Federated Suns began a rapid expansion of the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns, just as the other Great Houses were undertaking with their own militaries. In the case of the Avalon Hussars brigade this resulted in a number of regiments disbanded as a result of the Edict being reactivated, followed in 2764 by the founding of a new regiment, the Fifty-sixth Avalon Hussars, at the order of First Prince John Davion.[2]

With the exception of the Fifty-sixth's senior officers, all of the personnel for the regiment were drawn from the graduating classes of three of the Federated Suns military academies, the New Avalon Military Academy, the Warriors Hall and the Tancredi War College. The Fifty-sixth was fully-equipped from the outset and began training extensively as a unit, with the regiment also being paired with a sister regiment, the Fourth Avalon Hussars, for training purposes. Unfortunately, this partnership proved to be counterproductive, as the Fourth didn't regard the Fifty-sixth as "true Hussars";[2] this was a problem endemic to the Avalon Hussars, with many viewing the Fifty-sixth as little more than "academy bait."[3]

Tactics

During the Star League era all of the Avalon Hussars were required to focus on being both flexible and mobile, with every regiment required to be capable of deploying within eight hours, although many of the Hussars struggled to actually achieve this.[4]

Fifty-sixth Avalon Hussars (Green/Reliable)[5]

- At this point in time the Thirty-fourth was stationed on Colia.[5] In common with the other regiments of the Avalon Hussars the Forty-fifth had an attached aerospace wing, although these forces were primarily tasked to provide ground support rather than escort duties.[4]
