The Sixth Army of the Star League Defense Force was assigned to operations within the Capellan Confederation Military Region.[4]

History[edit]

Commanded by the Army Headquarters on Sadurni, the Sixth Army was one of three light Armies within the SLDF; both the Sixth and its sister Armies, the Fifth Army and Seventh Army, were structured as light Armies with just three corps, a reflection of the densely-packed but relatively small area of space covered by the Capellan Confederation compared to the other Star League member states.[5][1]

The Sixth Army was responsible for half of the border between the Capellan Confederation and the Federated Suns, and had been forced to sit by and watch as the two states fought a border war from 2760 to 2762. Their lack of strong transports and their small size compared to other Armies were the main cause of this inaction. This, combined with the traditional Capellan disdain for the SLDF, led to the Capellan citizens holding the Sixth in contempt. This disdain, combined with constant border raids, pirate actions, and a poor supply situation had reduced the morale of the Sixth Army's component commands. Further exacerbating the problem was the lack of transport assets, which forced the Sixth Army to maintain a static defense. As a result, many worlds in their area of responsibility were protected by Capellan militia units. These worlds saw three times the number of raids seen by other worlds garrisoned by units of the Sixth.[1]

That inaction changed when the Periphery Uprising began, with both the Sixth and Seventh Armies being called forward as reinforcements for the battered SLDF Armies within the Periphery. Both the Sixth and Seventh Armies were deployed into the Taurian Concordat, with the Sixth responsible for spearheading the various SLDF assaults in the anti-spinward region of the Concordat. The Sixth Army lost seven Divisions in combat with an eighth being disbanded; this represented more than half the combat strength of the Sixth Army, with XXXVIII Corps effectively destroyed as a formation and LXIII Corps taking significant losses.[5]
