The Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth, or AFFC, is the military of the Federated Commonwealth. A combination of the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns and Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces, the AFFC was officially established in 3041 in the wake of the War of 3039. The AFFC would suffer terrible loses during the Clan Invasion and be destroyed in the FedCom Civil War, with the surviving units separating back into the AFFS and LAAF.

Command Structure
High Command
The FedCom High Command decides on strategy for the AFFC and coordinates actions between the two State Commands. Formally, the Archon-Prince was the head of the FCHC. However, for much of its existence this role was shared by the First Prince, Hanse Davion, and his wife, Archon Melissa Steiner-Davion. Other members include the Commonwealth Champion, a role similar to Prince's Champion;, the Marshal of the Armies, who commands the AFFC in the Archon-Prince's absence; the commanders of the two State Commands; and the chiefs of each of the Military Departments.[1]
State Command
Learning their lesson from the War of 3039, the AFFC established two State Commands, each led by a Field Marshal, with full authority over all troops within either the Federated Suns or Lyran Commonwealth regions. In 3050, the commander of these two regions was Field Marshal Jackson Davion (Federated Suns State Command) and Field Marhsal Nondi Steiner (Lyran Commonwealth State Command).[1]
Organization
The AFFC made extensive use of Regimental Combat Teams; despite being the merger of two divergent military philosophies, the Suns' success using RCTs during the Fourth Succession War convinced many Lyran military leaders to adopt this formation.[1]
An effort was also made to reconcile the territorial organization system of the two militaries. The Federated Commonwealth was divided into regional Marches, similar in size and scope to those formally used by the AFFS. Each March was divided into two to three Operations Areas, each commanded by a Marshal, which were further divided into three Commands. The use of March Militias also came into common practice, along with Davion and Steiner units changing places, both for military and political reasons.[2]
