InMediaRes, the current owners of Classic BattleTech, divide BattleTech history into six eras (and one implied era). The products they release are grouped in this manner:
Star League era | Before 2781 | The time when the Star League reached the height of its power and was destroyed by the Amaris Uprising. |
Succession Wars era | 2781 – 3050 | When the Succession Wars raged between the Great Houses and many of the advances of the Star League disappeared as lostech. |
Clan Invasion era | 3050 – 3062 | The time between the beginning of the Clan Invasion and the Inner Sphere's victory at the Great Refusal. |
Civil War era | 3062 – 3067 | The years in the shadow of the Federated Commonwealth Civil War. |
Jihad era | 3067 – 3081 | The time when the Word of Blake unleashed its Jihad |
unnamed epoch | Roughly 50 years between the end of the Jihad and the beginning of the Dark Age. | |
Dark Age era | 3132 – | The time since the "blackout" that breaks down interstellar communication and threatens to bring about a new Dark Age in the Inner Sphere |
