History[edit]

Benito Delshay was a MechWarrior and a warrior of the Chihene, the Red Paint People of the Chiricahua, who served in the Seventeenth Recon Regiment, also known as Camacho's Caballeros, and was one of those serving in the Caballeros in 3056 when they were employed by Chandrasekhar Kurita to provide security for one of his companies, Hachiman Taro Enterprises.[1]

On the 2nd of November 3056 the Seventeenth fought a pitched battle in the streets of Masamori, the capital city of Hachiman, against the Ninth Ghost, as a result of machinations by the Internal Security Force. At the start of the battle, Benito was piloting a HCT-5S Hatchetman in either Adelante or Bronco company, and was responsible for the destruction of at least two Ghost 'Mechs, a Locust and a Grand Dragon, both via blows to the head with his 'Mechs hatchet.[1]

The Grand Dragon defeated by Benito was a Chu-i and lance commander, leading a mixed lance of medium and heavy 'Mechs; the Chu-i in question was a nobleman who'd disgraced himself and chosen to join the Ninth Ghost to redeem himself, promptly being nicknamed "Samurai" and "No-Name" by the other Ghosts. Benito took heavy fire from every 'Mech in No-Name's lance as he advanced, although he also blocked the line of fire for his fellow Caballeros. While Benito advanced, he sang his death song, and managed to keep his 'Mech moving forward past the point where the Ghosts were convinced it should've fallen; his last act was to throw his hatchet at No-Name's 'Mech before his 'Mech collapsed. Seconds after seeing Benito die, No-Name followed him, as the hatchet crushed the cockpit of his Grand Dragon.[1]

Notes[edit]

  • Although Benito's rank isn't specified in the novel Close Quarters, all of the MechWarriors mentioned in the novel who are assigned a rank are at least a Lieutenant Junior Grade or higher, making it likely, but not certain, that Benito was either a Lieutenant Junior Grade or Lieutenant Senior Grade.
