Carlos Marik (25th c.)

Carlos Marik (Born 2448 - Died ????)[1][2] - House Marik nobleman, Military Commander, and the 15th Captain-General[3] of the Free Worlds League.

Personal Traits

Carlos was known for his true patriot of the Free World League. However developed unhealthy paranoia towards the League's neighbor, Terran Hegemony.[4]

Character History

Early Life and Career

Carlos is the son of bloodthirsty Captain-General Geralk Marik, whom life was ended with arrival of the first BattleMechs. When he was old enough he joined the League's military and had risen through the ranks. He developed view that Terran Hegemony was out conquer his homeland and the rest of the interstellar space.[5]

His paranoia grew to point of Sociopathic fear, as Hegemony continued to build up its armed forces. He feared that this build up was prelude to invasion of the League.[6]

As Captain-General of the League

After Parliament removed his sister Simone from office, Carlos was appointed to take her place in 2475. His short tenure would led to disaster, while he continue concentrate League's Navy and few BattleMech Regiments in Oriente Star System. Originally posed to invade Capellan Confederation, he then turn its sights to what he believed to be the true threat; Terran Hegemony. He believe he was only one capable of conquering and ending the threat of the Hegemony. He was noted he was forego obeying the Ares Conventions when he undergo his invasion.

However, word spread that the impending, reaching Terran Hegemony government. Director-General Theodore Cameron lead a fleet of WarShips and other Hegemony forces in attack against Carlos' fleet very same year he took office. Over 20 of Carlo's Warships would destroyed at anchorage, including League few BattleMech regiments. The Hegemony would only 2 of theirs before withdrawing from the system.[7][8]

Coup and Disappearance

Word of the disaster reaches the League's capital on Atreus, his brother counts a bloodless coup to oust him. He succeeds in efforts, but he holds sway over House Marik's surviving Navy and other elements. Emissaries from League's Parliament attempt to broker a deal with now deposed Captain-General to end stand off by giving him the appointment as Speaker of the House. However he scoffs at their offer, feeling it was position unworthy of him. He felt he was only one worthy to hold office of Captain-General. Carlos then proceeds to rant in front of his troops to this effect.

These out burst would soon convince Naval Officers loyal to him, that he indeed was mentally out touch with reality. Majority of surviving fleet answer the call to return to Atreus, leaving Carlos behind. Carlos manages to Commandeer last ship of his fleet still loyal to him and flees for Periphery.

He would end up among the worlds of the Periphery that would soon later become the Magistracy of Canopus. He recorded swearing that he would return and reclaim Captain-General title that was taken from him.

However, shortly later he would soon not be heard from again in 2477. The Marik Family history reflects on his fate as he died at his own hands due to his paranoia, but it and other wilder speculation have never been confirmed.[9][10]

Family and Legacy

He would have one son, Carl in 2472, who would never become Captain-General.[11]
