General[edit]
After the Andurien Secession, the Humphreys Training Academy became the Legionary Training Academy under the control of the Free Worlds Legions. After ten years of standstill, the institute was revitalized within three years and reopened its doors by 3051. The students were strenuously screened by SAFE personnel, with graduates being assigned solely to the Free Worlds Legionnaires. The Legionnaires were able to readily replace combat attrition and non combat turnover.[1]
After the dissolution of the Free Worlds League during the Jihad, the Duchy of Andurien reclaimed the Academy, restoring the original name. Despite the Duchy lacking significant battle armor and aerospace production while simultaneously relying on trade to acquire enough new equipment to replace losses, the Anduriens expanded the training programs offered for both while hiring experienced personnel from the Andurien Rangers to be instructors.[2]
Enrollment[edit]
Only students who are classified low risk by SAFE and pass required mental/physical tests are permitted entry.[1]
Basic Training[edit]
The basics of survival, small arms use, and physical fitness are taught in the first six months. To foster camaraderie among the students the instructors put each class through a series of field exercises known as a "shared hell". Discipline in comparison to other academies is noticeably less.[1]
Advanced Individual Training[edit]
While the Academy offers a wide range of martial occupations, many Legionary troops are cross-trained in a second. The Academy Commander argues this enhances the battlefield performance due to a shared familiarity of each other's respective roles.[1]
Atmosphere[edit]
The harsh exercises are used to form a relationship between the cadets and the instructor. Another goal is the breaking down of cultural and regional prejudices while instilling loyalty for the Legion (the FWL as a whole) above anything else. Field exercises alone account for a 40% dropout rate among students. Those who cannot accept the Legion's combined arms doctrine either drop out or are transferred to less specialized academies.[1]
Graduation[edit]
Graduates are expected to see the Legion as a new family. Graduates will go on to replace combat losses and non combat turnover.[1]
