Mike "Big Moose" O'Heron was the commanding officer of the Seventh Lyran Regulars from 3062 until his death in late 3066.[2]

History[edit]

Colonel O'Heron, serving with the Seventh Lyran Regulars, was stationed on Loric in 3062. Upon taking command of the dispirited Seventh Regulars, O'Heron stepped up the unit's training schedule and instituted PT training for the entire regiment - including support staff. When the Lyran Alliance Armed Forces' Quartermaster Corps denied O'Heron's request for supplies, he personally petitioned the Archon of the Lyran Alliance in return for the creation of a veteran-quality unit in eighteen months. O'Heron's impact on the Seventh was so significant that his troops designed a new unit insignia based on his nickname.[2]

Late into the Federated Commonwealth Civil War, Margrave Richard Steiner subtly began searching for a means of removing the Victor Steiner-Davion-loyal Tenth Lyran Regulars from the seat of his power on Cavanaugh II, with both O'Heron's Regulars and the First Bolan Jaegers answering his call in the summer of 3065. Unfortunately for Steiner's Loyalists, the Tenth Regulars' familiarity with the terrain allowed them to avoid all attacks that weren't airborne in nature. When the Tenth Regulars began avoiding all airborne assaults as well, Margrave Steiner suspected that the local 182nd Division of the Com Guards was feeding information to his foes. When the Margrave ordered the shelling of the 182nd Division, they broke through his cordon of loyalists and linked up with the Tenth Regulars on 9 January 3066, although they stopped short of declaring their support for Victor's overall cause.[3]

The Com Guards soon began serving as the Tenth Regulars' mobile force, goading O'Heron's troops into launching failed assaults against the Tenth Regulars' fortifications- although the Bolan Jaegers proved to be more clever and did not fall for the same tricks. Before O'Heron and the Jaegers could launch a major attack in May, the arrival of the friendly Penobscot CTM and hostile Forty-second Avalon Hussars altered the balance of power on-world. For all of spring, the focus of fighting on Cavanaugh was between the CTM and Hussars, although Margrave Steiner's micromanagement lead to the CTM's shattering in a failed defense of the dried up Cowray River on 19 July. With the victorious Hussars now aligned with the 182nd Division and Tenth Regulars, O'Heron's Regulars and the Bolan Jaegers were left on the defensive.[4]

Unfortunately for Colonel O'Heron, the cooperating Allied forces soon began destroying the micromanaged Loyalists at will. In late September, a brutal clash between the Seventh and Tenth Regulars began and O'Heron was killed in the deluge of artillery and air strikes launched by their sister regiment, leaving command of the Seventh to his daughter, Megan.[1]
