Description

The Mingo Class DropShuttle, an ancient design of space vehicle built during the later years of the Terran Alliance. Designed as cargo ship, it was intended to be the companion vessel for the larger Conestoga-class JumpShips. The ship was among the earliest of its kind, which was created before the invention of the K-F Boom & Docking Collar that defined the concept of "DropShip."[1]

As part of Boeing's strategy, used the Mingo as means to dominate market meet the needs of the new colonies. Where they'd would need for sub-light cargo ships that could be dock with larger Jumpships and their specialized docking bay for DropShuttles rather than smaller Small Craft that was part usual means convey people and cargo to the surface.[1]

As with it's companion vessel, the Mingo would fall out use as the modern DropShip would soon eclipse it as newer vessel did have the modern amenities used dock with slimmed down modern JumpShips. By 2600, it would be obsoleted and be considered a primitive design, becoming extinct only to be found far corners of the colonized depths of Deep Periphery.[1]

Armament & Capacities

In it's role as cargo ship with limited passenger capacities, the Mingo was design carry 2,500 tons cargo, with ability move cargo on and off with reasonable speed. Able to move at descent speeds, the design was protected with 28.5 tons of what would be term as "Primitive Armor," which was bulkier, but provided less protection than Standard Armor.[1]

For a cargo vessel during this early age, it was well-armed in comparison to the elderly Saturn-class patrol ships. The ship's weaponry is centered around the Class 5 Autocannon and medium laser. It's forward weaponry is arranged with a single AC/5, with 2 medium lasers per fitted in the front and forward firing arcs. While the aft sides have a single AC/5 with one medium laser. The rear/aft arc has pair of Medium Lasers to round out the ship's weapon compliment. The ship's autocannons are fed by 5 tons of ammunition.[1]

The design was built using what would later be considered Primitive Technology, thus its armor and other components would be outclassed by later designs.

Notes

  • The Mingo's background information is bounded with the Conestoga Class Jumpship, which was its companion ship. Mingo's background only consisted of couple sentences which talks about the DropShuttle itself.
  • The Mingo is listed as a DropShip on the Master Unit List website, which it does not give extinction date for the ship.
  • The image provided for the Mingo was originally used for Vulture-class DropShip.
  • The ship's size and length outside of it's tonnage has not been detailed.
