Description

An outgrowth of the Combine's C3 systems, the Naval C3 was introduced in 3065, this conceptual supernetwork promises to link WarShip squadrons into finely tuned flotillas with greater coordination and firepower than any equivalent aerospace unit. Combine researchers swiftly found the act of constructing such a large and effective coordination network—capable of linking fire control for massive WarShip-mounted batteries—a lot more daunting than it was for ground forces, however. Adding in the unusual time delays of aerospace weapons fire and sensor readings presented additional challenges that nearly scrapped the project. Nevertheless, the Nirasaki Computers Collective persevered and was fielding functional, if limited, prototypes in the late 3060s. Regrettably, with few Combine WarShips and DropShips prepared to fully benefit from the technology, the disruption wreaked by the Jihad on the Combine’s shipyards left wide deployment of the naval C3 combat system in limbo.[1]

Rules

Game Rules

The Naval C3 operates identically to the C3I with a number of exceptions depending on the type of weapon being fired:[1]

  1. Damage brackets are based on the firing unit's distance to the target. Range brackets are based on the distance between the target and the closest linked unit.
  2. Energy weapons and guided missile weapons (ATMs, SRMs, LRMs, and Capital Missiles) fired within a Naval C3 network use the most advantageous range and not necessarily the closest range when selecting targeting units.
  3. All other weapon attacks replace their range modifiers with the following: +0 Short, +1 Medium, +2 Long, +4 Extreme.
  4. Naval C3 networks are immune to fighter and small craft sized ECM systems. Capital ECM systems apply the same modifiers to guided weapons as described in Strategic Operations, +1 to-hit for every hex passed through up to a maximum of +4, but no ECM of any type affects the connection of the Naval C3 system.
  5. Naval C3 systems operate out to a maximum of 60 hexes or 900km.

Construction Rules

The Naval C3 can only be installed onto Dropships, Jumpships, Warships, and Space Stations with a mass equal to or greater than 200 tons. The C3 weighs 1% of the vessel's mass and doubles the weight of all fire control systems of the vessel it is installed on. Only one Naval C3 can be mounted on a unit at a time.
