The York-class destroyer The Protector was a WarShip in service with Clan Cloud Cobra. Constructed by the Clans after the Pentagon Civil War, the CCS The Protector and her sister ship, Brimstone, were two of five WarShips that made up the Cloud Cobra Alpha Naval Reserve in 3061, alongside the Blind Faith, the Cataclysm and the Incense.[1] The Protector was still in service with the Cloud Cobras in 3067.[2]
In August 3069, The Protector was operating alongside the CCS Inquisitor in the Tanis system; when a small merchant fleet from Clan Ice Hellion jumped into the system unannounced on the 28th of August, Cloud Cobra Star Admiral Hollyann Kardaan took no chances, believing that the Ice Hellions may be attempting to capture the Tanis system, as had already been attempted at least once before in recent years. As a result, Kardaan ordered The Protector and the Inquisitor to attack, destroying three JumpShips and their DropShips; the Hellions would subsequently claim that the ships had simply jumped to the nearest inhabited system to effect repairs on a damaged JumpShip.[3]
