Colonel Wayne Waco is the commander of the mercenary command called Waco Rangers. Waco and his Rangers have pursued a vendetta against Wolf's Dragoons since an engagement between the two units in which Wayne Waco's son was killed by a Dragoon 'Mech stepping on him. The Rangers claim the incident was intentional, while the Dragoons claim it was an accident.

Later years

By 3049, Waco had apparently turned over field command of the Rangers to Colonel Wayne Rogers, though Waco maintained ownership of the unit. They served with the Free Worlds League during this time.[1] Apparently, by the aftermath of the Clan Invasion, the units reputation had dropped significantly. Later hired by the Lyran Alliance, at the Battle of Coventry, the unit faced Clan Jade Falcon. Not only was most of the unit destroyed, but they suffered the indignity of being rescued in part by elements of Wolf's Dragoons. Colonel Rogers was among the casualties.[2]

Jihad and Death

Waco was killed leading an insurrection of disaffected MechWarriors against the Dragoons on Outreach. This insurrection was orchestrated by the Word of Blake, who had viewed the Dragoons as a thorn in their side for some time. Though there are no witnesses to the event, Waco and his destroyed Battlemaster were found near the Archer that contained a slain Jaime Wolf. Conjecture points to a final battle between the two foes that ended in the death of both geriatric MechWarriors. This event was considered by many to have been the opening salvo of the Jihad.
