Unit Description

XVIII Corps (or the Eighteenth Corps) was one of the seventy-two Corps that made up the Star League Defense Force. Prior to the collapse of the Star League it consisted of 4 divisions and 6 independent regiments.[1]

History

In 2764 XVIII Corps was part of the 9th Army, assigned to District 2 of the Free Worlds League Military Region. When the simmering violence and rebellion building in the Periphery erupted with the New Vandenberg Uprising and subsequent Periphery-wide uprising in 2765 XVIII Corps was deployed into the Periphery Military Region along with the rest of the 9th Army.[1]

The resulting combat and terrorist actions within the Periphery Military Region inflicted heavy damage on XVIII Corps; two complete divisions, the 352nd BattleMech and the 91st Mechanized Infantry, were destroyed, along with three of the seven independent regiments... almost half of the effective combat strength of the Corps.[1]

The remaining units of XVIII Corps went on to fight in the Hegemony Campaign which halved the combat strength of the Corps yet again, with another division, the 108th Jump Infantry, and two more regiments destroyed. By the end of the campaign only one division and one regiment survived within XVIII Corps.[1]

When General Aleksandr Kerensky led the bulk of the SLDF on the Exodus the surviving units of XVIII Corps followed him.[1]

Notes

The Star League sourcebook contains two Corps listed as XVIII Corps, one within 9th Army and one within the 17th Army. This is most likely a naming error as there are no missing Corps entries listed between I Corps and LXXI Corps within the sourcebook; based on the numbering convention for those Corps deployed in the Periphery Military Region in 2764, the XVIII Corps listed within the 9th Army is most likely to be the actual XVIII Corps.[1][2]
