The Cooling Vest was the primary piece of protective gear for most Inner Sphere MechWarriors until the mid-31st millennium. Like the Cooling Suit it draws dangerous cockpit heat away from the pilot's body with liquid coolant through winding tubes, but using primitive materials and only covering the torso. They became very popular with poorer militaries, and widely replaced the lostech Cooling Suit during the Succession Wars.
The Cooling Vest offers nearly the same amount of protection against heat buildup, but is more cumbersome than the Cooling Suit. Nearly all vests are lined with bullet-resistant material and provide some protection against small arms fire, but the fragile coolant tubes are still vulnerable to being damaged.[1]
Cooling vests were first prototyped around 2440 by the Terran Hegemony, entered production in 2460, and were in widespread use by 2461.[2] Unlike the Cooling Suit, the simple technology behind the Cooling Vest was never lost and it never went out of production.[2] By 3050, the technology to manufacture Cooling Suits was rediscovered and saw widespread use by 3065, causing the Cooling Vest to fall out of favour.[2]

The LCJ 19 was the standard Cooling Vest used by MechWarriors of the Lyran Alliance in 3062.[3]
