Elam Nobu was a Tamar Pact noble.

History[edit]

After the Tamar Pact liberated Pandora in 3151, Nobu was created Baron of Pandora. By 3152, he was still the incumbent for the noble title. In office, he had corrupt dealings with the Malthus Syndicate, and held no actual loyalty to the Tamar Pact. Accordingly Nobu began to hatch plans for Pandora to secede from the Pact and return to the Lyran Commonwealth. In furtherance of this plot, he began helping Tamar officers in need in exchange for their loyalty, and gathered blackmail on other Tamar Pact officers on Pandora to threaten them into complicity. On 28 April 3152, he suborned Kommandant Katherine Hakima, one of Tamar's highest rank officers, with surreptitiously-recorded evidence of her infidelity.[1]

On 3 May, Nobu was surprised to hear about the Gray Death Legion's arrival on planet, as his plan was in its final stages, and he discovered that the Legion could not be bribed or bought, and there was no time to gather blackmail on them. His main ally was Irwin Keeling, of the Malthus Syndicate, who owned the largest production facility for BattleMechs on the planet, and Keeling forced Nobu to accept his enforcer, Hector Jurasco, as the commander of the newly-formed Pandora Planetary Guard. Keeling further demanded Nobu send Deschanes, his assistant, to contact the Legion and try to bribe them.[2]

On 5 May, Keeling activated the plan to attempt to overthrow the Pact. Nobu was forced to follow suit, blaming the Legion for a terrorist attack which had decapitated the Pact's leadership, ordering the arrest of any officers not loyal to him and Pandora's government.[3]

On 7 May, Nobu lost all contact with Jurasco's forces and also with Hakima. Fearing his plan was falling apart, he contacted Keeling to request reinforcements. However, realizing Nobu had lost, Keeling abandoned him and took all of the remaining 'Mechs of the PPG with him. Without alternatives, Nobu decided to escape. However, he and Deschanes didn't go very far. In a secret hangar where Deschanes had kept a shuttle hidden, Zahara Khaled, intelligence officer for the Pact, awaited them and rendered both unconscious, arresting them on charges of treason.[4]
