Erik Peterson was a retired colonel of the Star League Defense Force and descendant of Commanding Admiral David Peterson.[1]

Erik Peterson was married to Joan Brandt, an accomplished aerospace pilot who would eventually become an admiral and command one of the three theaters of Operation CHIEFTAIN during the Hegemony Campaign. He met Brandt through his father, Vice Admiral Lucien Peterson, who met her in 2739 while he was serving aboard the SLS Golden Hind. She had engaged in a reckless, unauthorized, and highly skilled mock combat exercise involving two fighters from the Free Worlds League and was nearly court-martialed before Lucien stepped in and saved her career.[1]
After the Amaris Civil War, Peterson and Brandt retired to New Earth along with their son Carl. Their daughter Andrea died during the war, and younger son Demitri followed General Aleksandr Kerensky on the Exodus in 2784.[1]
