ProfessionAerospace pilot

Jeffric Sherman was an aerospace fighter pilot who left the service of the LCAF and joined the Gray Death Legion at Galatea shortly before that unit’s trip to Verthandi. He was recruited by JumpShip Captain Renfred Tor, along with his fellow pilot Sue Ellen Klein.

History[edit]

The Sevren Fiasco[edit]

Sherman and Sue Ellen were the only survivors of a Lyran fighter group that was overwhelmed in battle at Sevren. When their unit was decommissioned, they chose to go mercenary and traveled to Galatea with their Chippewa fighters.[1]

Doubts and Fears[edit]

As the Gray Death made its inbound approach to Verthandi orbital space, both Sherman and Sue Ellen were dismayed by the admission that the Legion’s DropShip was only a converted freighter and not a military craft. They were concerned that should trouble ensue, they would be abandoned much as they had been during the Sevren operation.[2] Grayson Death Carlyle resorted to threats to keep the two pilots in line, telling them that if they refused to follow his orders he would seize their fighters and appropriate them as Legion property.[3]

The Battle above Verthandi[edit]

When their cover identity as a supply ship was exposed, the Gray Death’s DropShip came under attack from DCMS fighters. Sherman and Sue Ellen launched in their fighters as a defensive screen, engaging the Kuritans.[4] Sherman’s Chippewa suffered repeated hits from a damaged Slayer piloted by Raoul da Silva, leaving his ship a wreck and Sherman seriously injured.[5]

Death and Legacy[edit]

As his disabled fighter began an uncontrolled descent into Verthandi’s atmosphere, it started to burn up. Listening to Sherman’s screams of agony over their radio link, the distraught Sue Ellen had no option but to destroy his ship to end his suffering.[6]
