Reginald Benton was a Chu-i in the Forty-fifth Benjamin Regulars.[1]

History[edit]

Benton was the great-grandson to Albert Benton and the eldest member of one of the most respected MechWarrior families in the Draconis Combine. Unlike his grandfather and father however, Reginald had none of their natural aptitude, only long hours of study and practice allowed him to meet his familial expectations. In 3147 he was assigned to the Forty-fifth Benjamin Regulars when Operation PERCEVAL and the battle of Clovis introduced him to lowborn Leftenant Anselm Remaldi of the First Avalon Hussars in a running battle between the Regulars and local resistance. Remaldi's Locust legged Benton's Stinger in that first meeting. The pair faced off again in 3148, this time Benton returned the favor and forced Remaldi to eject. The pair met at least four more times, never a decisive victory though Remaldi lost two more Locusts. Soldiers on both sides routinely bet on the next outcome, and surrounding fighting would often halt while the pair dueled. The two have developed a deep hatred for each other, with Benton's carefully cultivated reputation among the nobles suffering for his inability to defeat a lowborn MechWarrior. In 3150 the Hussars were finally rescued, and the Regulars surrendered the world As Benton left, Remaldi broadcast a series of taunts knowing it would infuriate Benton, their feud unresolved. Benton has since pushed for a reassignment to a unit more likely to face the Hussars, and an upgrade of his Stinger with Clan tech.[2][1][3][4]
