Plot summary[edit]
Frances Marrion had a nightmare about her husband's execution by Draconis Combine soldiers, awakening suddenly. She was on her bunk onboard the Swamp Fox, a blue water Monitor that her group had captured to the Combine's occupation forces. Since then, they had been fighting a guerrilla war by their own initiative, raiding Combine's garrisons and depots. She was obsessed with the vengaence, and was decided to force the rest of Verthandi's revolutionaries to follow her path. The Monitor attacked a Combine depot using jump-equipped infantry, but found the place deserted. The Monitor Swamp Fox found himself surrounded by a full lance of BattleMechs hidden underwater in ambush. They fought them, downing two and crippling a third, but also sustained massive damage before she losed conscience. Frances awakeded in a rebel base, days later, along with the Jump infantry commander of her ship. She was informed by him than the Swamp Fox had been sunk, and than she was the only survivor the resistance found. After hearing it, she slep again, knowing than, for her, the fight would never end.
