A resident of Woodstock, Koffler was a local Astech and LoaderMech pilot, who was known for being a charismatic and naïve class clown. After the Blackout, he was recruited by the Eridani Light Horse's Shockwave Lance who was garrisoning the world under contract to the planetary government, as additional support while they were cut off from the rest of their unit.
Provided with a MiningMech hastily acquired from a local mining facility, Koffler's mirth-making was great for unit morale, but his cavalier attitude in battle troubled his superiors.
