Description

After liberating the world of Jeanette, the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery High Command decided to try using an experimental missile submarine design to defend worlds based on the example of ancient Terran designs. For expense reasons, they decided to not include Capital weapons in their new submarine, designing the ship instead as a tactical Fire Support vessel. In addition, they designed the ship to function as a mobile undersea command post, following lessons learned from the Clan Invasion.

The Triton Class was constructed to provide artillery fire support for troops, especially those equipped with TAG gear.

In peace time, the ship can be used a transport vessel, since the hull was based on that of civilian cargo vessels. This gives the ship long duration for crew, which has prompted some civilian authorities to have Tritons built for civilan use.

Only three ships of the class have been constructed. High Command is still evaluating its performance and the economic feasibility of the design for use on other worlds.

Armament

The main armament is six Shigunga Arrow IV artillery batteries, with 90 missiles for its launchers. The ship's only close in weaponry are six 20-tube Long Range Torpedo launchers, (three mounted in the bow, and 1 launcher mounted in each of the left, right, and rear arcs), with six tons of ammunition for them.

Cargo Capacity

The Triton class can carry 6,011 tons of cargo accessible through four doors.

Known ships of the Class

  • DCS Triton
  • DCS Polaris
  • DCS Athens

Notes

Features submersible, Armored Chassis and Control Modifications, Field Kitchen, Communication Equipment, Docking Units, 20 Second-Class Passenger Quarters, 10 Maritime Escape Pods, MASH Theater (1), Mounted Search Light (front).
